Bolton have completed the signing of Jason Lowe, who had been available as a free agent following his release by Birmingham City.

Lowe, a native of Wigan who progressed through the youth system at Blackburn Rovers, has signed a two-year contract at Macron Stadium and becomes Phil Parkinson's first signing of the summer.

The 26-year-old made his senior debut for Rovers in an FA Cup tie against Queens Park Rangers in January 2011 and went on to make 196 appearances for the club, 49 of which arrived after he had been appointed captain in his final season at Ewood Park.

Lowe was released following Blackburn's relegation to League One in 2017 and he had been tipped to link up with Wanderers, who were trumped to a deal by a Birmingham side then under the management of Harry Redknapp.

He made just 11 appearances during a solitary campaign at St Andrew's, however, leaving him little option but to seek fresh employment elsewhere.

After putting pen-to-paper on a deal with the Trotters, Lowe said: "It's great to be here. The club has a lot of history and loads of my friends support them. I'm excited to be here and looking forward to getting going.

"There's a great fan base here and I hope we can give them something to shout about this coming season."
