Ben Alnwick has signed a new two-year contract at Bolton Wanderers, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2020.

Alnwick, who won multiple Player of the Year awards for his displays this past season, joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Peterborough United in August 2016.

Having initially served as backup to Mark Howard, the 31-year-old has made the goalkeeping jersey his own for much of the last 18 months - accumulating 67 appearances in the process.

One of 22 players whose existing deal was set to expire on June 30 - with 10 confirmed departures so far - Alnwick has become the first to commit his future to the Trotters and will report for pre-season training in a matter of weeks.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk upon penning his new deal, Alnwick said: "We've been talking about the contract for a while now. Once I was able to come down, I was absolutely over the moon to get it signed.

"It was always the plan to get my future sorted out early and it was a no-brainer to stay here. It was all I wanted to do from the end of the season.

"I've been knocking on the door all the way through the season to get a new contract because I love it here. I'm settled and it's somewhere I always wanted to stay."
