Phil Parkinson has expressed his sympathy for Bolton supporters, saying he can't blame those who made their discontent known at Burton Albion.

A number of Wanderers supporters had to be restrained by stewards in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium, while chants of 'You're not fit to wear the shirt' echoed around the ground prior to the half-time interval.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson admitted he too would be unimpressed if he was a paying spectator in the stands, saying performances haven't merited the backing of loyal fans.

"I can't blame the supporters at all," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"They've backed us in their numbers home and away and we didn't give enough.

"I'd be very disappointed if I was a Bolton Wanderers supporter and I witnessed that performance."
