Karl Henry has urged Bolton supporters to stick by their team, as they look to end a poor run of form and retain their Championship status.

Wanderers head to Barnsley on Saturday on the back of four successive defeats, the most recent of which came at the hands of Millwall at Macron Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking after that game, Henry, who has impressed in his debut campaign at the club, was optimistic Phil Parkinson's side will avoid immediate relegation back to League One and says the squad will use the views of those writing them off as motivation.

"When I joined last September we were written off already," Henry told BWFC's official YouTube channel.

"I was told many times I'd joined a club that was already relegated. That's not been the case. We've fought to get ourselves in a position where we can stay up.

"Success at the beginning of the season would have been staying in the league and that's no different now.

"We've got every chance of doing that. The belief is there. We've got a good squad of players, a good group of lads and really good team spirit.

"You are going to lose games of football and sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you weren't good enough.

"We know Barnsley have got a game in-hand on us so it's crucial we go there and don't get beat. But, saying that, the league causes all kinds of twists and turns, and I'm sure in the season yet."
