12 years since they last posted a profit, Bolton Wanderers are confident their financial woes could soon be a thing of the past.

Figures released on Tuesday showed Wanderers to have made an operating loss of £12.9million for the financial year ending June 30, 2017 - a figure blamed largely on the club's relegation to League One and the ceasement of parachute payments from the Premier League.

But with wages at their lowest level since 2001 and the Trotters striving for survival in the Championship, chairman and majority shareholder Ken Anderson has predicted future accounts, which will be due for filing in 12 months' time, could well provide positive news.

"There is much still to do but I do hope you will agree we are now certainly heading in the right direction, something that could not have been said in the past few years," Anderson told

"Indeed, I would like to let you know that the improvements we have continued to make in the last nine months have resulted in some positive news going into the last quarter of this financial year.

"The management accounts of both the football club and Whites Hotel are looking very encouraging and with a strong finish in the last quarter we should be able to report a profit for the first time since 2005."

Research into previous accounting figures show Wanderers posting a pre-tax profit of £3.5million for the financial year ending June 30, 2005.

Anderson is one year out with his date, however, as the club announced a nominal pre-tax profit of £34,255 in the financial year that followed.
