Phil Parkinson praised Bolton's response to their weekend defeat, after they came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw at Reading.

Following Saturday's disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Preston North End, Parkinson made seven changes for the trip to the Madejski Stadium but was rewarded with an encouraging performance that saw Wanderers move five points clear of the relegation zone.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson expressed his delight at the result, whilst also believing the Trotters could have walked away with all three points.

"I thought we should have won the game," Parkinson told BWFC's official YouTube channel.

"We had a lot of chances before they scored, which was against the run of play. It knocked us for 5-10 minutes but we got the goal just before half-time which our first-half performance had warranted.

"We always felt there was a possibility we could tire as a team because we're getting players fit in the first-team, like Jan (Kirchhoff) and Jon Flanagan.

"But we started the first 15-20 minutes of the second-half really brightly and it was probably a game we should have won, but it was a good response after getting beat at home on Saturday.

"There's always an element of risk when you make seven changes but I thought the balance of the team was good and there was some decent performances. We can take a lot of heart from it.

"Reading were fighting for their lives. They changed their style and went a bit more direct but they still carried some very talented players.

"All in all, I thought we performed very well."
