Bolton could take advantage of the weather conditions on Saturday, with postponements presenting them with an opportunity to put further distance between themselves and the Championship relegation zone.

Following last weekend's goalless draw at Norwich City, Wanderers go into their Lancashire derby with Preston North End three places and four points clear of the drop.

A number of their rivals will not be in action though, as, at the time of writing, the wintry conditions brought on by Storm Emma have forced games for both Barnsley and Burton Albion to be called off, with pitch inspections on the morning of fixtures likely to result in further cancellations.

Trotters boss Phil Parkinson will have a selection boost ahead of kick-off, with both Josh Vela and Reece Burke available after recovering from ankle injuries.

It had initially been feared that Vela could have been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, but after scans ruled out the potential for ligament damage, the academy graduate returned to full training on Thursday and has put himself in contention for a starting role.

Burke, who was substituted at Carrow Road last time out, has recovered from a slight ankle knock of his own and will compete with the likes of Mark Beevers, David Wheater and Dorian Dervite for a place in defence, or possibly Derik Osede should he be seen as a midfield option.

Craig Noone (knee) and Will Buckley (hamstring) continue to be assessed following spells on the sidelines, but Wanderers remain without the suspended Mark Little and Karl Henry for the final time in their respective bans.

Should he take to the field, Sammy Ameobi will make his 50th appearance for the club.
