Josh Vela in Contention for Surprise Return

Josh Vela could be a surprise inclusion in the Bolton squad at the weekend, after scans on his ankle showed no sign of ligament damage.

After his half-time withdrawal at Queens Park Rangers a fortnight ago, there was concern Vela's campaign may have come to an early end after he left Loftus Road wearing a protective boot.

The 24-year-old, who missed two months of action with a similar problem at the start of the season, merely suffered a twist on this occasion and, speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Preston North End, the academy graduate expressed a desire to be back involved in first-team plans as soon as possible.

"The ankle's alright, thankfully," Vela told The Bolton News. "I got good news from the scan, so hopefully I am back fit as soon as possible.

"After the first game I got a bad injury, so I was out for 10 weeks and fell behind.

"I've come back and played in quite a few games before obviously getting this little knock, but that's part and parcel.

"It is especially frustrating with just how good last season was, but that's football. You get injuries and you just have to deal with it."
