Chinedu Obasi made an instant impact during a trial at Bolton, scoring the only goal for their under-23 side as they beat Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Obasi, who is available as a free agent after leaving AIK Fotboll at the end of the Swedish season in November, entered the action with an hour played at Macron Stadium and repaid the faith shown in him by netting the goal that secured all three points for David Lee's side, who extended their lead at the top of the Professional Development League.

Born in Enugu, Nigeria - the same hometown of one Jay-Jay Okocha - Obasi began his professional career at Norwegian side Lyn Oslo and has since gone on to feature for the likes of Hoffenheim, Schalke, Shenzhen and the aforementioned AIK.

Once linked with European giants such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona, Obasi, who represented Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, has struggled for fitness and failed to impress during trials at both Sunderland and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 31-year-old wasn't the only trialist in the Wanderers squad against the Clarets. In fact, Obasi replaced Jan Kirchhoff, who is also unattached after leaving Sunderland at the end of last season and a interested spectator as the Trotters' first-team picked up a win over the Black Cats on Tuesday.
