EFL clubs have approved proposals that will see the summer transfer window close at 17:00 on Thursday 9th August 2018.

The changes, which Premier League clubs voted through last September, will move the current deadline from August 31 to a date which precedes the start of the new top-flight campaign.

The 2018/19 EFL season is currently scheduled to start on August 4, 2018, with the Premier League kicking off the following weekend.

EFL clubs will still have the option to sign players on loan up to and including August 31, 2018, while deals to either loan or sell players to leagues whose window remains open beyond the new deadline will be permitted.

Confirming the news, EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "After discussing the options throughout the course of the last few months, I'm pleased that the matter has been determined by clubs ahead of the start of next season.

"This new approach will give clubs and managers the stability they crave earlier in the season whilst also providing the flexibility to add to their squads after the traditional deadline until the end of the month if required."

The EFL revealed 950 players were registered with member clubs in the 2017 summer transfer window, of which 488 (68%) were either out-of-contract or free transfer signings.
