Josh Vela faces an anxious wait to discover whether his season is over, after suffering ankle ligament damage in Saturday's defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

Vela, who missed two months of action after picking up a similar problem on the opening day of the campaign, was substituted at half-time at Loftus Road and left the ground wearing a protective boot.

The 24-year-old, who has made 23 appearances so far this season, was replaced by Jem Karacan in the capital, a man who hadn't figured at first-team level since September when Vela was recovering from his previous lay-off.

No timescale has been set for Vela's return, although the duration of his previous absence could provide an indication that Wanderers fans may have to watch their side's battle against relegation without the inclusion of the academy graduate.
