Bolton return to league action on Friday night, when they play host to Bristol City in a televised fixture at Macron Stadium.

Wanderers have dropped into the Championship relegation zone since they were last in action, although victory over the Robins would see them move up to 19th position ahead of the weekend clashes.

After losing leading goalscorer Gary Madine in a reported £8million transfer to Cardiff City on transfer deadline day, Trotters boss Phil Parkinson faces the difficult prospect of replacing a man who was in the form of his career prior to his switch to the Welsh capital.

The arrival of Nottingham Forest duo Tyler Walker and Zach Clough, albeit on loan deals, will boost his attacking options, while Adam Le Fondre could suddenly find himself back in contention after sitting amongst the substitutes for the majority of the season so far.

Aaron Wilbraham is a major doubt to face his old club because of a calf injury, so both Walker and Clough could go straight into contention for debuts.

Two more players who could be thrown straight in are on-loan Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan, as well as Reece Burke, who re-joined the club on loan from West Ham United in the final hours of the window.

Burke may be looking at a starting position alongside either Mark Beevers or Dorian Dervite at the heart of the defence, after it emerged David Wheater is struggling to make the game due to a groin complaint.

Darren Pratley remains unavailable because of a broken leg and isn't expected to feature again until the end of March.

Bolton Wanderers: from: Alnwick, Howard, Turner, Little, A Taylor, Dervite, Beevers, Flanagan, Robinson, Osede, Darby, Wheater, Burke, Vela, Karacan, Ameobi, Buckley, Noone, Charsley, Morais, Henry, King, Le Fondre, Wilbraham, Walker, Hall, Clough
