Phil Parkinson has backed Bolton to continue proving their doubters wrong, after picking up a 1-0 victory over Bristol City.

At the end of a week where leading goalscorer Gary Madine was sold to Cardiff City, Sammy Ameobi scored the only goal as Wanderers moved out of the Championship relegation zone under the floodlights at Macron Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson expressed his delight at the result and said those who continue to write off his team just provide added confidence to he and the Trotters players.

"We're very pleased," Parkinson told Sky Sports.

"We changed the system. We only had about 20 minutes to work on it in training, but the lads stuck to the task really well.

"It was a disciplined performance. We stayed in the game and a moment of quality has won it.

"After the week we've had, we're absolutely delighted with the three points.

"Sammy is a very talented player who has played in the Premier League and he's been great since he's been here.

"We gave him a different role and he really relished it. He looked dangerous all night and I'm pleased the transfer window is closed.

"Second-half, Zach Clough came on and was really bright. He had a great chance to make it two and you sometimes wonder if you're going to get punished, but there was great resilience in our defending and we deserved the three points.

"People have written us off all season - at the start of the season after the bad start, and now we've sold our top scorer. People are writing us off again and we've got to prove them wrong."
