Zach Clough has made a surprise return to Bolton, rejoining the club on loan from Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.

Clough, who scored 22 goals in 68 appearances during his first spell at Macron Stadium, has failed to flourish since leaving for the City Ground 12 months ago, netting just four times in 31 outings after being largely restricted to a substitutes' role.

The 22-year-old will be tasked with picking up where he left off with Wanderers, after leading goalscorer Gary Madine completed a reported £6million deadline day transfer to Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Clough could make his second debut for the club when Phil Parkinson's side play host to Bristol City on Friday.
