Bolton fans may have to be patient before seeing the best of Harry Charsley, but Phil Parkinson has backed the on-loan Everton midfielder to become a hit at Macron Stadium.

Charsley, who joined Wanderers on loan until the end of the season last week, made his senior league debut in their 2-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, but was substituted shortly after half-time after struggling to make an impact.

Despite that, Parkinson believes he has signed a player capable of adding a new dimension to his side and has backed the 21-year-old to improve with experience over the coming months.

"I thought he did well," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It was a big ask of him but I thought he showed a good tactical understanding of the number 10 role.

"It's always a big ask of anyone coming in but I feel he's a player who's got the ability to arrive in the box.

"It didn't quite drop for him but there were a lot of good things."
