Bolton could face a fight to keep hold of star striker Gary Madine, despite turning down a reported seven-figure bid from Cardiff City.

Speculation over the past week has linked the Bluebirds and Championship rivals Sunderland with a January move for the 27-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 27 appearances for Wanderers this season.

Wednesday's edition of The Bolton News has put substance to those stories, confirming an undisclosed offer from Neil Warnock's side has been rejected.

Madine is contracted to the Trotters until the summer of 2019 but uncertainty over his future appears to be growing and with three weeks still to go until the closure of the transfer window, chiefs at Macron Stadium may be forced to make a decision.
