West Ham United have given Bolton a major boost in their quest to land both Reece Burke and Josh Cullen on loan for the remainder of the season.
Both players spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Wanderers, but returned to their parent club last week following the expiry of their deals at Macron Stadium.
Trotters boss Phil Parkinson had been keen to retain the services of the promising young duo, despite reported competition from a number of Championship and League One clubs, and may just get his wish after they featured for the Hammers in their FA Cup third-round draw at Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.
FIFA rules state players cannot represent more than two clubs in any one season, meaning Burke and Cullen must remain at London Stadium and fight for a first-team place, or be loaned back to Wanderers to gain further experience outside of the Premier League.
Cullen's performance against Shrewsbury earned him many plaudits, potentially earning him another opportunity when the sides meet in a replay next week, but he left the stadium requiring hospital treatment after a kick to the face required emergency surgery to implant a tooth back into it's socket.
