Bolton captain Darren Pratley is expected to miss around two months of action, after scans confirmed he has suffered a fractured fibula.
Pratley was forced off after just 33 minutes of Wanderers' New Year's Day victory over Hull City and left Macron Stadium wearing a protective boot, amid concern that he had re-injured the ankle that kept him sidelined for more than six months last season.
As per a report by The Bolton News, Trotters medical staff are hopeful the 32-year-old will be able to return to action by March but they will take no risks on his rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Karl Henry, who lasted just 13 minutes of that same game, looks set to miss between two and three weeks of playing time after injuring his hamstring.
Josh Cullen, whose loan deal expired on Thursday, and Josh Vela filled the void against the Tigers, while Wanderers also have options in the shape of Jem Karacan, Jeff King and Derik Osede to deputise during their absence.
Earlier reports of a potential move for Plymouth Argyle midfielder Toumani Diagouraga appear to be wide of the mark, however, despite Bolton's sudden need to bolster their options in the middle of the park.
