David Wheater will miss Bolton's game against Barnsley on Saturday, after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in their weekend defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wheater, who has made 16 appearances so far this campaign, was cautioned by match referee Keith Stroud shortly before half-time at Molineux for a challenge which caused both managers to be sent to the stands.

Reece Burke stood in for Mark Beevers, who missed the draw with Reading through a ban of his own, and the on-loan West Ham United defender would be the favourite to get the nod in Wheater's absence.

Wheater will come back into contention for a starting place when Wanderers travel to Nottingham Forest on December 9.
