Former Bolton captain Jay Spearing has joined League One side Blackpool on a deal which will run through until the end of the season.

Spearing has been available as a free agent since being released at the end of his Wanderers contract in June and had spent the past fortnight training with the Seasiders.

The 28-year-old's move to Bloomfield Road will see him link up with Gary Bowyer, who was in charge at Blackburn Rovers during Spearing's loan spell at Ewood Park in 2015.

Speaking about his latest challenge, Spearing admitted he was thankful for the opportunity to resume his career and he has set his sights on yet another promotion.

"I've been speaking to the manager throughout the summer about a few bits and bobs and he's given me the confidence to come in and train, as well as the time to try and get fit, get sharp and get ready," Spearing told Blackpool's official website.

"Thankfully we got a deal sorted and I’m now ready to kick on.

"The standard of the lads in training has been brilliant and the gaffer has got them playing in the right direction."
