Ken Anderson has expressed his surprise that Jay Spearing remains without a club, but has denied speculation linking the former captain with a return to Bolton.

Spearing was released by Wanderers when his contract expired at the end of last season and has yet to agree terms with any interested parties, leading to rumours that he could be holding out for a surprise reunion at Macron Stadium in the event the club managed to come out of a transfer embargo in the near future.

Anderson says talks have taken place with the EFL regarding the Trotters' current status, but admits to having no interest in Spearing and is keen to see the club move forward without the 28-year-old former Liverpool midfielder.

"No discussions have taken place with him and he is not in our future plans," Anderson told bwfc.co.uk.

"I am a little surprised that he hasn't been snapped up by another club given his talent, but I am sure that will change soon and believe that he would be a credit to any team that he joins."
