Dean Holdsworth has officially resigned from all positions at Bolton Wanderers, following the collapse of Sports Shield BWFC.

Holdsworth, who had owned 38% of shares in the club, was forced to relinquish that stake after his company was placed into liquidation at the High Court last Monday, putting more than a third of Wanderers up for grabs through the liquidator.

During an ill-fated 15-month spell at the club since his joint-takeover from Eddie Davies, alongside Ken Anderson, Holdsworth has also held the Director of Football and an ambassadorial role, but the club have now confirmed all ties with the former player have now been severed.

A short statement, posted at, read: "Burnden Leisure Limited can today confirm that with immediate effect Dean Holdsworth has resigned as a Director from all group companies including Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

"No further comments in relation to this matter will be made."
