Bolton are anxiously awaiting the results of x-rays on Jem Karacan, who left the KCOM Stadium on Friday night wearing a protective boot.

With the game at 0-0, Karacan was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Hull City's David Meyler which Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson felt warranted a red card.

Meyler was booked by match referee Oliver Langford, but Parkinson couldn't hide his disbelief at the official's decision, believing the injury indirectly led to his side conceding the opening goal in a game they would ultimately go on to lose 4-0.

"That challenge is a straight red in the current climate," Parkinson told The Bolton News.

"It's not my only concern on the night, and I'm stood there, the linesman is there, the fourth official is there and we can all see it's a reckless challenge in danger of hurting an opponent; it has done.

"It should have been a red and with Jem hobbling around, they went and got the first goal.

"He's wearing a protective cast but we won't know exactly how bad it is until we get back to Bolton for an x-ray.

"He jumped in two-footed on Jem's standing foot and caught him just above the ankle. I cannot understand how that was not a red card offence."
