Phil Parkinson says progress is being made, but Bolton continue to be without their injured trio of Josh Vela, David Wheater and Sammy Ameobi.

Vela has been out of action since injuring ankle ligaments in the opening-day defeat to Leeds United and earlier this week revealed he is likely to be sidelined for a 'couple of months' when responding to questions from supporters on social media.

Parkinson has backed up the comments from the academy graduate, whilst also revealing he is happy with the rehabilitation process of both Wheater and Ameobi, who are dealing with back and knee issues, respectively.

"Josh saw the specialist on Monday and he's not going to have an operation," Parkinson said.

"I would say it will be at least a couple of months before we see Josh again.

"David is still not quite right but is making progress.

"Sammy Ameobi is making very good progress with his knee and by the time we come back from the international break we hope he will be very close to playing."
