Phil Parkinson believes Bolton are a team growing in confidence and thinks their first Championship win of the season is just around the corner.

Having fallen to defeat at home to Leeds United in their opening game, Wanderers have since responded with victory at Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup and draws in league competition at both Millwall and Birmingham City.

Speaking after the most recent of those, a goalless draw at St Andrew's, Parkinson insists his players are over their loss in the first game and has seen enough in recent performances to believe Wanderers are a side on the up.

"I'm very pleased," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It was always going to be tough coming here after the Millwall performance, but I thought we stood really strong as a team.

"We were very disciplined and structured but played some good football, as well. We got into some good positions - I felt we had the best chances in open play and maybe deserved to win.

"I don't think we could have asked for any more in terms of the way the lads went about their business.

"Birmingham are a strong side. They threw in (Lukas Jutkiewicz) at half-time and then a £1.5million signing as well with 25 minutes to go, but we concentrated really well and a good sign for myself and the staff is physically we looked in great shape.

"It was always going to be a big ask when they throw on fresh legs but we stood strong, concentrated really well and the lads are really pleased - I feel we're a team growing in confidence.

"If you look at the top level, or Champions League football, any team has to have a structure and a way of playing. Within that framework, I thought we played some good football but there has to be the basics in place first.

"We lacked that against Leeds and it cost us. In the last few games we've put it back in place and we looked a strong side tonight.

"We want to get that first win, obviously, but if we play like we have tonight it will come very soon."
