AFC Wimbledon are said to be closing in on the signing of Liam Trotter, who is available as a free agent following his release by Bolton.

Trotter, who spent three-and-a-half years with Wanderers, featured 23 times last season as Phil Parkinson's side won promotion to the Championship, but was deemed surplus to requirements as his contract at Macron Stadium came to an end.

The 28-year-old trained with Rotherham United at the start of the month and recently failed to earn a deal at Scunthorpe United after playing in two of their pre-season friendlies.

A report from the Press Association suggests Trotter has now found himself a club, however, with the Dons set to secure the services of the former Ipswich Town and Millwall midfielder on a two-year deal.

Wimbledon play host to Burton Albion on Friday evening.
