Scunthorpe United look set to end their interest in Liam Trotter, after deciding not to fly him to a pre-season tour of Austria.

Trotter is available as a free agent after leaving Bolton at the end of June and had been training with Rotherham United, before featuring for Scunthorpe in their 6-0 victory over North Ferriby United last weekend.

He played another 66 minutes last Wednesday as Iron drew 2-2 at York City, but manager Graham Alexander confirmed after that game that Trotter would not be part of his travelling party.

The former Wanderers midfielder is said to have impressed during his two-game stint with the League One side, but their rejection leaves his future unresolved just three weeks prior to the start of the new campaign.

Reports suggest Swindon Town have expressed an interest in the 28-year-old, although the player is said to be reluctant to discuss terms with a club in the fourth-tier.
