Scunthorpe United have taken Liam Trotter on trial, as his quest for a new club continues following his release by Bolton.

Trotter is available as a free agent after leaving Wanderers at the end of June and had been training with Rotherham United, who turned down the opportunity to offer a deal to the 28-year-old.

That prompted Iron boss Graham Alexander into inviting Trotter in for a trial, and he was a surprise inclusion on the teamsheet as Scunthorpe ran out 6-0 winners at North Ferriby United on Saturday afternoon.

Trotter completed 55 minutes at Grange Lane and did enough to earn a second chance, with a decision on his future set to be decided following Tuesday's friendly at York City, when Alexander's side fly out to Austria for a double-header against SK Strobl and SV Austria Salzburg.
