Phil Parkinson praised Bolton's battling spirit, as they cemented 2nd place in League One with a 4-2 victory at Oxford United.

Filipe Morais, Mark Beevers and Josh Vela, as well as an own-goal from Cheyenne Dunkley, helped Wanderers to a fourth successive victory at the Kassam Stadium, as they moved four points clear of Fleetwood Town in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson hailed the quality of his side's performance, claiming they needed to show a different attitude despite their impressive form of recent weeks.

"We knew we'd have to work hard because Oxford are a very good side," Parkinson told Sky Sports.

"They've got a lot of talented players and it was a tough game.

"I felt in the second period, the fact that Dorian Dervite, Darren Pratley and Jay Spearing are coming back from injury probably caught up with us a little bit.

"We had to show resilience. It doesn't matter how you win, you've just got to get the job done.

"I thought we showed a lot of qualities that were different to what we've shown in previous weeks. We just had to dig in, be solid and look to hit them on the break.

"Going into the game, myself and Steve Parkin had a little bit of concern about going again with a few of the lads.

"I'm so pleased to get the result and we're looking forward to getting on the coach back to Bolton and getting the lads ready for another game at the weekend."
