Jay Spearing will underdo a scan on Wednesday, after injuring medial ligaments in Bolton's 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers.

Spearing suffered the problem late in the first half at Macron Stadium, following a 50/50 collision with Rovers forward Ellis Harrison.

Harrison was unable to continue and was replaced shortly before the break, while Spearing did complete the remainder of the half but failed to emerge for the start of the second period.

Speaking after the game, Bolton boss Phil Parkinson revealed Spearing had picked up a medial ligament problem and the full extent of the damage should be known once the player has been sent for a scan.

"It looks like he's done his medial ligament," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"He's such a warrior and you could see that he wanted to stay on, but there's no way he could. It's a big blow for us.

"We'll have to take a look, get him a scan when the swelling has gone down and we'll probably know in the next 48 hours."
