Keshi Anderson has been recalled by Crystal Palace, bringing an end to a disappointing loan spell at Bolton.

Anderson signed a season-long loan deal with Wanderers on the final day of the summer transfer window, shortly after penning a new two-year contract at Selhurst Park, and was tipped for a bright campaign at Macron Stadium.

He marked his debut with a goal in a 1-1 draw against Southend United in September, before being on the receiving end of a controversial red card in defeat at Walsall a fortnight later.

From that point on, appearances were sporadic. The 21-year-old made just 10 appearances for the Trotters, half of which were from the substitutes' bench, while his last outing came as an 89th minute replacement for Zach Clough in a 1-0 loss at Chesterfield on December 17, 2016.

Speaking to The Bolton News, manager Phil Parkinson said Anderson's departure should allow him to conduct further business within the January transfer window.

Parkinson said: "I had a good chat with Mark Bright at Palace and we mutually agreed it was the best thing for Keshi and for both clubs.

"He hasn't figured as much as he or Palace would have liked.

"He got in the team when he first came here and we have been on a terrific run and it has been hard to get him in the side. For his development he needs to go somewhere he is going to play.

"It is also a chance for us to bring another player in and it had to be a joint agreement for Keshi to go back. Now we're in a situation to do a bit of business."
