Phil Parkinson has revealed that, despite having the day off, every member of the Bolton squad trained on Christmas Day.

After losing at Chesterfield on December 17, Wanderers had a nine day break prior to their outing at home to Shrewsbury Town on Boxing Day.

Parkinson admits he put faith in his players, which has since been rewarded with a maximum return of six points from two games over the festive period.

"We gave the players Christmas Day off," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It's something we've done in the past. They all had to do a run with their GPS vests at home on Christmas Day.

"Nick Allamby (Head of Sports Science) had it all detailed out for them and what time they had to do it.

"Every single member of the squad did it to the letter and that professionalism went a long way."
