Zach Clough has received the backing of Phil Parkinson, after he was uncharacteristically wasteful in front of goal in Bolton's defeat at Chesterfield.
Wanderers had opportunities to extend their five-match winning run at the Proact Stadium, but failed to find the net on an afternoon where Clough was guilty of missing several clear-cut chances that supporters expect him to convert.
The 21-year-old leads the club's goalscoring charts so far this season, however, with seven strikes to his name, and Parkinson believes Clough won't dwell on the blank for too long.
"He's a very good finisher and he's a good player," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.
"He's been a key player for us so far this season but today the goals didn't come for him.
"He keeps getting in there. He'll continue to do that and he'll score more than he misses.
"Cloughy cares and that's why he's such a good lad. He cares about the club and his football, but that's the life of a goalscorer.
"You're going to get opportunities. Sometimes they go your way and sometimes they don't - you've just got to make sure more often than not that they do."
