Bolton could eventually receive more than £5million from Rob Holding's transfer to Arsenal, as part of a deal which also includes a sell-on clause.

After working his way through the academy system with Wanderers, Holding made a total of 30 senior appearances for the club before completing a move to the Gunners in July.

In an exclusive Q&A evening with supporters, Trotters chairman Ken Anderson revealed a lower bid was rejected for the England under-21 defender and the club will benefit in the long-term with additional funds included as part of an initial £2million deal.

"Arsenal came in at £650,000 and the money we should get if he continues to develop as he was could be anywhere over £5million," Anderson said.

"£5million coming into this or any other club is a substantial amount of money and it does help.

"Him playing in the Champions League was a big benefit to us, just as it was when he started the first game of the season.

"If they sell him, that's a big benefit for us as well."

Since completing a move to the Emirates Stadium, Holding has made seven appearances for Arsene Wenger's side.
