Phil Parkinson says off-field issues were of no distraction, after his Bolton side moved into the third round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Sheffield United.

Gary Madine, Sammy Ameobi and Josh Vela were all on the scoresheet at Macron Stadium, as Wanderers saw off their League One promotion rivals to put themselves into the hat for Monday's draw - in which they will be joined by clubs from the Premier League and Championship.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson expressed his delight at victory over the Blades but concedes his players made hard work of events after twice holding two-goal leads over their opposition.

"Two good sides on good runs went toe-to-toe and I'm pleased we've come out on top," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester.

"We came in 1-0 up at half-time when it should have been two - David Wheater's goal, I could see from where I was that it was over the line.

"If that had cost us getting through and a lucrative third-round tie, I think we'd have been moaning a little bit more about it.

"It was a great goal by Sammy and then the third should have killed the game off. I'm disappointed we conceded the second, which made it a little bit edgy towards the end but I felt at 3-1 the game should have been done and dusted.

"The effort of the lads was tremendous and it was a good cup tie. A good spectacle for people who pay their money to come and watch a game of football.

"Winning is a very good habit to have. To get into the third round is important but also to beat one of our rivals again. We've beaten them twice now and we're pleased with that.

"Ideally we don't want any distractions but inevitably it's hard to stop people talking. All we've tried to do is focus ourselves and the players on the game.

"I just hope everything gets resolved at the club and all the good work that is being done by so many people to get the club up and running again can carry on in the right direction."
