Ken Anderson and Dean Holdsworth are locked in boardroom talks, after it emerged Bolton face the daunting prospect of administration by the close of 2016.

The Wanderers co-owners, who purchased the club from Eddie Davies in March, have failed to see eye-to-eye in recent months, leaving Anderson to go alone.

Anderson was forced to cancel a Q&A evening with supporters last Wednesday due to 'high level' talks. Subsequent speculation linking the club with a Saudi-based takeover was strongly denied and it has since been confirmed that the Trotters chairman is seeking to purchase Holdsworth's 40% share.

Confirmation has yet to be forthcoming, but The Bolton News report a deal has been struck, in principle, that would see Anderson take full control of the club ahead of a scheduled meeting with EFL officials on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Anderson revealed administration was almost a certainty if a deal could not be agreed, stating: "It would be a last resort, but if we do not reach an agreement there would be no alternative but to appoint an administrator.

"If I don't put the money in, or Dean, then the club won't get to the end of next month. Creditors and salaries are due.

"If there is an agreement, we carry on trading as normal.

"It is such a shame to be talking like this when everything else is going so well."

Holdsworth is said to be reluctant to sell his share of the club he worked hard to seize control of at the start of the year, but is willing to conduct business in order to protect their long-term stability and future.
