Jay Spearing is set to miss the entire month of November, after scans on a groin injury showed a tear to the muscle.
Spearing had been listed on the Bolton teamsheet for Saturday's victory over Port Vale, but pulled out of the warm-up before being replaced by Liam Trotter ahead of kick-off.
Captain in the absence of Darren Pratley, Spearing has captained Wanderers throughout the campaign and has enjoyed perhaps his most consistent run of form since making his loan move from Liverpool permanent in August 2013.
The 27-year-old will miss the upcoming FA Cup tie with Grimsby Town, Checkatrade Trophy fixture at Cheltenham Town, as well as League One matches with Peterborough United, Millwall, Coventry City and Northampton Town.
Progression in both aforementioned cup competitions could see Bolton face two games in the opening week of December, while the most likely return date at present seems destined to be the televised clash at home to Gillingham on December 12.
