Zach Clough is a 'special player' in the eyes of Phil Parkinson, who believes his star striker is getting closer to hitting top form.

Clough ended an 11-game goal drought by scoring both goals in Bolton's 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic on Saturday, as he produced a timely reminder to supporters as to why he was highly courted by Bristol City last season.

Speaking after Wanderers' win over Latics, Parkinson expressed his delight at Clough's display and says he is one of several players capable of changing matches with his ability.

"I said in the week that he's looked a lot better in training," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester. "We do the physical stats and he's getting stronger each week.

"I was really pleased with his first goal. He's a special player because he can produce moments like that and defining moments in games.

"We've been lacking that - we've been saying that for a while - but you need your key players to produce and Zach has done that."
