Bolton play host to Blackpool on Tuesday, knowing defeat will almost certainly end their participation in the Checkatrade Trophy.

After losing 2-0 to an Everton U23 side on matchday one, back on August 30, combined with Blackpool's 2-1 victory over Cheltenham Town, Wanderers enter the game at the bottom of the northern section's Group A table.

Defeat for Phil Parkinson's side against the Seasiders would leave them on the brink of elimination, a prospect which would then be fulfilled should Everton U23 avoid defeat at Cheltenham later in the evening.

Parkinson would welcome the opportunity to rotate his squad ahead of the tie, but Trophy rules stipulate a minimum of five players to have started against Oxford United must be in the starting line-up at Macron Stadium.

Fresh faces could include a returning Derik Osede, who has been restricted to just one outing so far this season due to injury, while the young duo of Alex Perry and Jack Earing could come into the midfield after turning out against Everton U23 earlier in the competition.

Gary Madine and Zach Clough will be assessed after playing just over an hour on their first starts since injury, so Jamie Proctor, Keshi Anderson and Alex Samizadeh are all on standby.

Andrew Taylor is expected to retain his place, but could potentially drop into a full-back role, with Josh Vela, fresh from signing a new contract, allowed to operate in his more natural midfield position.

Bolton Wanderers: from: Alnwick, Howard, Moxey, Beevers, Osede, A Taylor, Wilson, Wheater, Thorpe, Vela, C Taylor, Spearing, Trotter, Ameobi, Henry, Perry, Earing, Proctor, Clough, Anderson, Madine, Samizadeh
