Bolton boss Phil Parkinson has been named Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month, for August 2016.

Following the dismissal of Neil Lennon in March, Wanderers saw out a dismal Championship campaign under the stewardship of Jimmy Phillips before handing the reigns to Parkinson when he completed a move from Bradford City in June.

He has presided over an unbeaten start to life in League One, with the Trotters topping the table at the end of the month after a return of four wins and a draw from their opening five league games.

He saw off competition from Graham Alexander, Justin Edinburgh and Stuart McCall, and becomes the first Bolton boss to claim the Manager of the Month award since Dougie Freedman, who took the Championship equivalent in April 2013.

Meanwhile, Jay Spearing has failed in his attempts to take the Player of the Month accolade, after it was awarded to Scunthorpe United's Josh Morris.
