Phil Parkinson believes Bolton can fend off interest from other clubs, as the future of Josh Vela continues to hit the headlines.

Vela was on the scoresheet on Wednesday, as Wanderers moved to the top of the League One table with a 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of two bids from Wigan Athletic, both of which were rejected by Trotters chiefs, and Parkinson says the stature of the club means players are happy to play their football at Macron Stadium.

"We want to keep our best players," Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester. "The chairman wants to keep the best players and Josh is firmly in that category.

"No one has knocked on my door at all since I've been here because they know they're at a good club.

"It's a very good club and there's potential. We've just got to try and get it going again and we've made a good start."
