The road to Wembley begins on Tuesday, as Bolton make the short journey to Blackpool in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Wanderers, two time beaten finalists in the competition, are favourites to advance with Betvictor and will look to go one better than last year, when they were knocked out at the first hurdle by lower league opposition in the form of Burton Albion.

Phil Parkinson's side began their league campaign with victory over Sheffield United at the weekend, but travel to the Fylde coast with what is set to be a weakened team in search of a first win at Bloomfield Road in 39 years - when Frank Worthington and Neil Whatmore were on target in a 2-0 success in the old Division Two.

Although changes are expected from the Bolton boss, one enforced upon him will be the omission of captain Darren Pratley, who faces two months on the sidelines after suffering a fractured leg on the opening day.

Mark Davies and Liam Trotter are both likely to feature in his absence, with Jay Spearing and Josh Vela set to be rested, while opportunities could also be handed to the young duo of Tom Walker and Kaiyne Woolery.

Summer signing Jamie Proctor has recovered from a minor groin complaint and could be handed a first start, and he could be joined in the starting line-up by Derik Osede, after he battled back from a hamstring injury.

Zach Clough (hamstring) has returned to full training but may not be risked, while Dorian Dervite and Max Clayton (both knee) will likely join him in the stands.

Further changes are also anticipated, with Mark Howard, David Wheater and Lewis Buxton all set to drop to the substitutes' bench.

Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer could be without Danny Philliskirk for the visit of the Trotters, after he limped out of the opening day victory over Exeter City with an ankle injury.

Kyle Vassell and Bright Osayi-Samuel were also forced off in the same game, with all three set to miss out.
