Mark Davies and Jamie Proctor were on target, as Bolton ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over York City in a pre-season friendly.

Wanderers were ahead inside three minutes at Bootham Crescent, as Davies got on the end of a knockdown from Gary Madine before drilling low into the bottom corner.

York were awarded a penalty on the hour as Mark Howard was adjudged to have fouled Aidan Connolly inside the box, but the Trotters goalkeeper made amends for his error by guessing correctly to keep out the spot-kick from Scott Fenwick.

The outcome of the match was sealed with six minutes to go, as Proctor showed how it was done - firing home with ease from the penalty spot, after he was taken down in the area by Matt Fry.

Phil Parkinson made four changes to the side that started against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, as Davies, Alex Finney, Zach Clough and trialist Frazer Richardson all began. There was also a place on the bench for a new trialist, as former Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United defender Danny Collins links up with the club.

Bolton started in the best possible fashion and were ahead inside three minutes against their non-league opposition, as a Davies got on the end of a knockdown from Madine before firing the ball into the bottom corner.

That lead was almost doubled immediately, but Clough narrowly missed the target after cutting inside the from the right.

Howard was called into action for the first time on 13 minutes, as he raced off his line to deny Fenwick a clear run on goal, while Davies' attempts to add to his goal tally were denied at the other end.

Clough held off two challenges before being outmuscled on 20 minutes, an action which proved to be his last as he limped out shortly afterwards with a tight hamstring.

The visitors were soon forced into another change, as trialist Neal Eardley came on for the injured Frazer Richardson, who appears to have strained knee ligaments.

After a routine first-half for Howard in goal, he came off his line to punch away a free-kick from Aidan Connolly as the opening 45 minutes came to a close with Bolton leading 1-0.

There were no more substitutions as Wanderers emerged for the start of the second period, which they began brightly with Proctor seeing a shot deflect behind after a neat move which also involved Darren Pratley.

Proctor was involved again moments later, this time latching on to a quick free-kick from Alex Finney, but York got bodies back to nullify the threat.

The newly-signed forward then turned provider, shifting the ball on to Davies, who brought a smart save out of trialist goalkeeper Luke Simpson with a first time strike on goal.

Simpson made an even better stop on 50 minutes, this time reacting with lightning speed to keep out a diving header from Max Clayton which had seemed destined for the net.

York were then awarded a penalty on the hour, as Howard was harshly adjudged to have brought down Fenwick inside the Wanderers box, but he made amends by diving low to his left to keep out the resulting spot-kick and keep the score at 1-0.

After a 15 minute spell of inactivity due to a host of substitutions from both sides, Fenwick drilled a 25-yard shot wide for the hosts, shortly before the visitors were handed the chance to wrap up the game as they were awarded a penalty of their own.

Following a foul by Fry on Proctor, the Wanderers forward picked himself up and made no mistake from the spot - slotting low into the bottom-right corner, with City's substitute stopper Scott Flinders diving the wrong way.

Neither side threatened from that point on, as Bolton secured a third win from five pre-season friendlies this summer. They return to action on Tuesday, when Parkinson's side play host to Burnley at Macron Stadium.
