Emile Heskey has rejected the opportunity of a reunion with Neil Lennon, after turning down an approach to sign for Hibernian.

Heskey will become a free agent when his contract at Bolton expires on Thursday and is contemplating his next move, as he explores the possibility of retirement.

The 38-year-old, who scored just three goals in 48 appearances during his time with Wanderers, played with Lennon during their days at Leicester City and was given the chance to extend his playing career by signing at Macron Stadium in December 2014.

Lennon recently returned to Scotland after working as a pundit for the BBC's UEFA Euro 2016 coverage, but won't be able to name Heskey as his first signing as Hibs boss, as confirmed by the player himself.

"I took a call but I am now happy to do coaching rather than playing," Heskey told Edinburgh Evening News.

"There was interest but for me it is the coaching side that interests me.

"He (Lennon) went to Bolton and did well then it fell away a bit. But he's definitely good enough to get another chance. He's a wonderful up and coming manager who has a lot to offer.

"Bolton won't have harmed his reputation. Dougie Freedman was there before him and went on to do well at Forest. Not many managers see their careers go up [all the time]."
