Post-Match: Phillips on Bolton's Draw With Charlton

Jimmy Phillips believes Bolton are capable of producing better performances, after they were held to a goalless draw by Charlton Athletic.

After an improved display in defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday, Wanderers disappointed against the Addicks, who will join them in League One next season after failing to secure the victory required to delay their relegation into the third-tier.

Speaking after the match, Phillips highlighted the return of Oscar Threlkeld as a positive to his team's game, but admits to seeking more from his players in the remaining three games of the campaign.

"Tonight we saw two teams - one relegated and one fighting for their lives," Phillips told BBC Radio Manchester. "It wasn't a great game, to say the least.

"From my point of view, I was pleased with Oscar Threlkeld. He's been on loan at Plymouth Argyle, came back last week and he had a solid game, showed great energy to go forward was probably behind our best move of the game.

"When you look at the back-four, we had three lads who are 21 and under. It was an inexperienced back-four, so that'll be good for their future careers and the fact that they were playing against a team fighting for their lives and needing to score.

"I said after the Middlesbrough game that there's far more talent in the dressing room than we're actually seeing out there on the pitch.

"That's something we're trying to put right with the remaining games. But whether it's confidence or one or two players switching off, I know the players can play far better football than they've shown tonight."
