Conor Wilkinson's future as a Bolton player remains in the balance, after it was confirmed he is to spend the rest of the season on loan at Portsmouth.

Wilkinson, who joined Wanderers from Millwall in July 2013, has made seven senior appearances for the Trotters, but has spent the majority of his time at Macron Stadium lining up elsewhere in the Football League pyramid.

The 21-year-old has come through spells at both Barnsley and Newport County so far this season, scoring a combined total of two goals in 24 appearances, but hasn't featured for Wanderers since a 4-2 defeat at Rotherham United in January 2015.

Wilkinson will report for training with Pompey when he returns from international duty with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad, putting him out of the Easter weekend fixtures against Notts County and AFC Wimbledon.

He will, however, be eligible to feature in any end-of-season play-off ties, should the League Two promotion candidates occupy one of those places when the campaign comes to a close.
