Bolton Wanderers will bid farewell to their Euxton training base in the coming days, with players set to report to Macron Stadium after the Easter period.

After more than two decades at Euxton, Wanderers agreed to a £2.2million sale of the premises to near neighbours Wigan Athletic in February, as the club, then under ownership from Eddie Davies, looked to raise capital that would allow them to stay afloat.

Players trained at Macron Stadium last week, as they prepared for Saturday's humiliating defeat at Bristol City, but they are expected to be based at the Eddie Davies academy site in Lostock when they report back for pre-season training in the summer.

Speaking to The Bolton News, interim Bolton boss Jimmy Phillips said: "I know we've just sold Euxton but we've got a training facility at Lostock with seven or eight really good pitches and a couple of artificial surfaces.

"When I came into the first team at Bolton and had a hundred or so games under my belt we were training on primary school pitches, the middle of the dog track, the little five-a-side pitch behind the Burnden stand - anywhere that would have us.

"The facilities now are still very, very good and I'm sure the first team staff and players will enjoy training there."
