Sam Allardyce believes his former assistant at Bolton, Phil Brown, has what it takes to succeed in the vacant managerial role at the club.
Brown is the overwhelming favourite to become the next boss at Wanderers, after Neil Lennon departed by mutual consent on Tuesday.
Currently in charge at Southend United, Brown has previous experience of working alongside Dean Holdsworth, having hired the new Trotters owner as assistant manager at Derby County in 2005, and Allardyce believes the friendship struck between the duo over the last 20 years could be beneficial to all parties.
"I can certainly see Phil Brown as an option," Allardyce told The Bolton News. "He is a man who loves Bolton as much as I do.
"He has been successful at Southend so whether Wanderers can entice him away is another issue.
"But I think Phil would be a good fit with the club and with Deano - I think they would work well together."
Allardyce also moved to dismiss early speculation that he could be set for a summer return, after he received a positive response from supporters whilst appearing at Macron Stadium in support of Garry Jones on Saturday.
He added: "I have got big commitments and all of my focus is on trying to make sure that Sunderland stay in the Premier League."
