Bolton Wanderers have confirmed they have completed a deal to sell their Euxton training base, for a figure reported to be in the region of £2.2million.

Details emerged on Tuesday that Wigan Athletic had agreed to buy the former ROF Chorley site, after plans to redevelop Charnock Richard Golf Club were hit by complications since its purchase in 2013.

Bolton have been exploring the possibility of selling their training ground for a number of years and interest began to mount in late 2015, when Preston North End chairman Peter Ridsdale was shown around the property. But the prospect of a sale increased when Latics chiefs held discussions of their own in January.

A statement confirming the deal, posted on the club's official website, read: "Bolton Wanderers can announce that the club has concluded a deal to sell its Euxton training ground.

"The facility will now be solely owned by Huron Properties, with another North West football club set to be based at the Euxton site from this coming summer.

"In the period leading up to Easter, the Bolton Wanderers first team and backroom staff will begin a process to relocate permanently to a combination of both the club's Lostock training ground and Macron Stadium."

The Eddie Davies academy, based at Ox Hey Lane, in close proximity to Macron Stadium, is currently home to one large grass pitch and a dozen all weather surfaces. Significant development would likely be required in order to house both youth and first-team training, with Wanderers setting the aim of having work completed by the start of next season.
