Neil Redfearn has been sacked as manager of Rotherham United, less than 48 hours after they were beaten 2-1 at Bolton.

Redfearn, who was only appointed boss of the Millers in October, saw his side drop into the bottom three as a result of their defeat at Macron Stadium, having lost for the sixth time in their last eight outings - winning one and drawing one.

Saturday's loss came hot on the heels of a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic the weekend previous, prompting action from United chairman Tony Stewart.

In a statement, posted on Rotherham's official website, Stewart said: "It is with a heavy heart that we've parted company with Neil today. As we all know football is a results driven business and with 16 games to go our aim has to be to retain our Championship status.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Neil well with his future career and thank him for his efforts and endeavour.

"Our focus now is 100% behind appointing a first team manager as soon as possible."

Since taking charge at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, Redfearn had overseen 21 matches in charge - winning five, drawing two and losing 14.
